DMMPO Overview
The Defense Medical Materiel Program Office (DMMPO) is established as an operating entity under the US Department of Defense (DoD) TRICARE Management Activity (TMA) effective 1 July 2009. TRICARE is the DoD’s health care program for members of the uniformed services, their families and survivors. For more information about TMA, please see http://www.tricare.mil/.

On 1 July 2009 the DMMPO will be at an initial operating capability stage and full operating capability is planned to be achieved on 1 July 2010. Until full operating capability, the DMMPO performs specific functions and Defense Medical Standardization Board (DMSB) (an existing organization) will continue to execute its functions and maintain its current structure. The DMMPO and the DMSB will merge capabilities and on July 1, 2010 all DMSB and DMMPO functions will be performed by the DMMPO. For information on the DMSB see https://www.dmsb.mil.

Mission

The mission of DMMPO is to recommend clinical, logistics, and program policy, as well as to support medical materiel development and acquisition processes across the four Services.

Purpose

The purpose of the DMMPO is to promote joint interoperability of institutional and operational medical capabilities, efficiency in the acquisition and life cycle management of medical materiel, and standardization of medical supplies and equipment.

Goals and Objectives

  • Provide a professional program management framework to achieve joint objectives and evaluate performance
  • Initiate and drive strategic initiatives forward
  • Immediate goals of the DMMPO are to:
  • Deliver business value by helping to balance medical logistics efficiency, clinical effectiveness, and fiscal rigor related to acquisition and life cycle management of medical supplies and equipment.
  • Enhance medical materiel standardization.
  • Establish standardized management processes
  • Provide resources for coordination, facilitation, or execution of initiatives that will benefit the Services.
